Sewing Room/Home Office Update

Sewing Room Update - January 2025

After living in this house for a full year, my goal for this past January was to give my sewing room/home office a major cosmetic update. When we moved in, paneling had already been painted white and we just gave it a refreshed coat of white on the walls and ceilings to make it feel like a clean blank slate. I needed time to decide what my vision for the room was - it took a whole year but after fantasizing about this wallpaper from Schoolhouse for most of that time, I finally pulled the trigger. Here's a reminder of what it looked like when we moved in:

And this is what it looked like right before starting this project:

The wallpaper in here was somehow even more challenging than the first time we wallpapered in the upstairs hallway. This time, we were working with traditional wallpaper rather than pre-pasted so it was a whole new learning curve on how to get the right amount of glue on the paper and how to smooth it once it was on the wall. We also struggled more with cutting the rolls to the right length and matching up the patterns. We actually almost ran out of paper at the end and had to use a square in the upper right hand corner that does not perfectly match the pattern, but no one has been able to see it without us pointing it to them so far.

For this room, I also got to put my sewing skills to work and made some simple curtains to cover the lower half of the window and I'm very pleased with how they turned out. The other DIY project for this room was spray painting the Ikea storage cart next to the desk from black to a royal blue that matches the wallpaper. Otherwise, I just sourced some shelves and a new desk chair for myself. I'm currently working on artwork for the wall opposite of the window. I got some great prints while at Kew Gardens in London this May but haven't had a chance to get them framed yet.
